La Escuelita is a program dedicated to providing Latino children in elementary school who are heritage speakers of Spanish and their families with a safe and welcoming space to use, strengthen, and continue developing Spanish. The program focuses on both oral language and literacy skills, with children working in small groups based on their age and grade level.
La Escuelita also celebrates culture through special activities and invited guests. Our goal is for children to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural, using their home language as a foundation for learning and growth.
La Escuelita meets every Saturday during the academic year at La Casa/IU Latino Cultural Center from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
